May The Force Be With You.

 By Geeky Gem

You may think from the title of this blog that this might be about Star Wars. However this is not about Star Wars but about 4 Geeks that came together to start a blog.

geek

15 months ago Hmsbeefnuts and myself came together and decided it was time we hit the internet with of own brand of fun and geekness. Along the way bloggers have joined us, Kirkie Chick with her fabulous take on gaming for girls and her weekly top 10. Caelrona joined us and she brought a mix of anime and manga all the way from America. We even had guest blogs from Ammzzy who told about Wolf Grit by Anne Rice and few choice other things.

We’ve had a lot of fun, from KirkieChick, Ammzzy and Myself spending the weekend at the SFX Weekender to my trip to Hogwarts. You’ve enjoyed Hmsbeefnuts own brand of blogging and had some great stuff from across the sea with Caelrona. I am guessing by now that you may know where I am going with this. So I guess I better get to it.

goodbye

With the increasing lack of time that myself and Hmsbeefnuts seem to have lately we can now longer give All Geek To Me the time it should have. So it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to close All Geek To Me down. It’s a very sad time as after 15 months and 90,000 views we have to go. Which is a shame we have worked very hard on the blogs you have all come to read and we thank you all very much if you have ever read, commented or liked anything we have done.

I hope you have enjoyed all we have had for you to view here at All Geek To Me.

But for the last time this is good-bye from us and thank you.

Hmsbeefunts, Geeky Gem, Kirkie Chick and Caelrona.

Wednesday Whimsy

Wednesday Whimsy

By: Caelrona

Hiya all! Caelrona here with another dose of Wednesday Whimsy. This week I actually have some stuff to write about for all of you. It isn’t geeky per-se (although I am making fun of people) but it’s pretty funny, so it should count as whimsical =) I’m not going to talk about geeky goings-ons in my life, because it is just as eventless and boring as it was last week – but about things going on here in my home country of America. Now you might be asking yourself, what could be so interesting in America that I would write a blog post about it? Sports? Nope, not interested in the world of sports even if it is Football season here (For those of you who are not familiar with American Football, it is sort of like Rugby for pussies wearing Kevlar armor with a bunch of rules and regulations that take away all the blood – I mean fun.) Politics maybe? Excuse my language, but hell no. What then, could be so interesting? Stupidity. If there is one thing Americans excel at, it is making absolute fools of themselves, usually over the most amazingly silly things. Most recently it has been over food, which I thought was kind of funny. As a geek I have my favorite gamer snacks, and I’m sure you do too. But I certainly am not going to rage or pay out the nose to get them. Anyway it’s always fun to laugh at stupidity together, so I thought I’d share it with you so that you can laugh at it with me.

Hostess is going out of business. The maker of spongy, sugary, sinfully delicious and fattening snack cakes and pastries is closing. If you don’t know who Hostess is, I’ll wait while you go google it. Try searching the words Twinkie, Zebra Cakes, Snowballs, Ho-Hos, DingDongs and Zingers. Or you could check out the movie Zombieland. One of the main themes in the movie is Tallahassee trying to get his hands on a Twinkie. But why is this big news? Why is this even news at all?! I have no idea, but it is making headlines all across America. I guess people love their snack cakes a little more than I do. Whatever the reasons, people have been going nuts ever since the headlines were posted. Stores have been ransacked of anything with a Hostess label and people have begun posting boxes of the pastries and cakes online (try an ebay search, I dare you) for ridiculous prices. Even worse? People are buying them! When I looked them up on ebay, someone was selling 5 boxes for $80. That is ridiculous profit, because those boxes only cost like $2 at the store. Perhaps the absolute worst thing? People are buying them. Just for shits and giggles I watched that very same auction end – someone bought them. For $80 freakin’ dollars! That’s the price of two used video games right there, or a new one plus a little spare cash. Maybe it’s the geek in me – or it might be because I’ve never been overly fond of Twinkies – but personally I’d rather have the money than the snack cakes.

Among other stupid American news is yet another case of what I can only describe as ‘Holy shit, my country is filled with fuckin’ idiots.’ A very popular (overpriced, douchbaggy, ‘cool’, hipster, with mediocre drinks) coffee house franchise has been running out of one of their seasonal drinks very regularly and very quickly, much to the intense displeasure (*cough* profanity screaming anger *cough*) of their customers. It has gotten so bad that it made the national news headlines. Starbucks did so much promotion on the Pumpkin Spice Latte drink (which, I’ll admit is fairly tasty) that they can’t keep their stores stocked with the stuff to make it. They’ve been selling out the same day they get the stuff in – even the powdered instant stuff they sell which normally ends up in the discount bin after New Years has been flying off their shelves – and yet again onto ebay listings. I don’t know what it is, but when people can’t get their junk food (or drink) craving, they will spend crazy amounts of money on that stuff. Tins of the powdered instant stuff are selling on ebay for $20 a pop, when they can be bought at the stores for only $7. Not only that but people are listing recipes on how to make same-tasting Pumpkin Spice Lattes at home. Holy Toledo, people are actually paying for a recipe! The only possible explanation for all of this crap?

I guess it could just be that people are insane. Or stupid; whichever.

Anyway, on a different note of insanity it is November now. I don’t know what that means for other countries, but in America this means two things; Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Nothing really too geeky there, but some fun is to be had anyway. Thanksgiving is all well and good I guess, but I’m most excited about Black Friday. Not because I’m going to be going shopping – but because I’m going to watch the madness on television. Every year it gets better and better. Riots, beatings and all sorts of crazy things go down. According to statistics about 20 people die every year on Black Friday trying to shop. This shit is insane. What should be just a fairly busy shopping day turns into the most wickedly awesome fights and riots ever. Seriously, this is one day of the year that the news is guaranteed to be worth watching. Fights start on Black Friday that put professional pit fighters to shame.

Well, anyway that is what is going on here in America. People are being stupid, and someone somewhere is going to die trying to buy some pajamas. Ahh stupidity – it’s always entertaining! Anyway, I’ve got some more madness to watch so I’ll talk to you next week!

Until next time;

Caelrona – signing off! ❤

MONDAY MUSINGS

By @hmsbeefnuts

Hello. Welcome to another Monday full of my musings. This blog is a bit of a weird one to write, but it has to be done. I know that this isn’t really a blog about Geeky Gems, Caelrona, Kirkiechick or my life, but if you will permit me, this one will start off as more of a personal kind of blog, but fear not, I’ll try to fit in some sort of geekery later on. I shall be taking a bit of a back seat around All Geek To Me Towers over the forseeable future. It’s been a bit of a crazy year for us here at All Geek To Me. We started this blog after a former attempt failed to mature into anything. Geeky Gem and I decided that we should try again, and we worked hard and came up with All Geek To Me. Since January, we have built up views and day by day, week by week and month by month, we have grown our views and site visits. I am very proud to say that as of the time of writing we have had 58,000 views, a number that we scarcely dreamed was possible.

11 months and 273 blogs later, we have built All Geek To Me into something we are all immensely proud of. Now I know it’s just a blog, but we appreciate every view, every comment, every like and follow. I still remember my first like for a blog, the excitement was palpable, and it still is a thrill to know that anyone read a blog I wrote, and actually took the time to comment, or like, so thank you to anyone who has ever done so. It is then, with great regret that I have to reduce my time here at All Geek To Me, however, I do have a good excuse. Recently I have kind of fallen head over heels in love with the most beautiful, amazing woman I have ever seen. She has an adorable 4 year old son, and we have been seeing a whole lot of each other. I don’t want to reduce this to dangerous levels of soppyness, but at the moment, I could not be happier. The social situation has not been kind to my time however, and I simply do not have time to write as much as I used too, and although I don’t really want to give up writing blogs, something has to give. I will still be here once a week to tap out a blog on my trusty keyboard, but the rest of the time I will be in work, or with my two favourite people on Earth (sorry, soppyness leaked in).

So with that done and dusted, time for some geekyness. November is a crazy time for video games, and although I have no time to play them, my geek soul would not let my wallet pass up the chance to part with some cash. Forza Horizon, WWE 13, Assassins Creed III, Black Ops 2 and Halo 4, have all been released and purchased by me in the last couple of weeks. I must be insane, as I have hardly touched any of them. What I will say though is that I have given up on multi-player. I have let my Xbox Live membership lapse, I have no interest in Black Ops multi-player or Halo for that matter, from now on, I’m strictly a one player kind of guy. What I will say is that Halo 4 is absolutely beautiful to look at, and a lot of fun to play, and I have had fun with all the games so far, just not had a whole lot of time to play them yet.

Movie wise, I haven’t really had time to watch anything in recent weeks, but The Hobbit looms large on the horizon, and I can not wait. In the world of books, I can confirm that I have finally finished A Storm of Swords: Steel and Snow, and have started Blood and Gold. That has taken me almost a year to read, but I finally knuckled down and did it, and what can I say? It’s fantastic, truly one of the greatest fantasy masterpieces ever written. I know I’m late to the party on this one, but bear with me, I’ll get to A Dance With Dragons in good time.

TV is a bit of a sore subject at the moment. I have been enjoying Dexter, The Office, Parks and Recreation and WWE Raw. I have also been forced into watching The X Factor. Dear God what a horrible, horrible show, but sometimes, you have to do these things, and at least it is almost over, it is right? Please say it is…

So that’s it for this week. I hope you enjoy the other blogs that Geeky Gem, Kirkie Chick and Caelrona are bringing you over the next 7 days, I know I will be. I’ll see you next week with something a bit more substantial geek wise.

Movie of the Month – August 2012

By Geeky Gem and Hmsbeefnuts

We are now in the month of August, which is hard to believe. This means that All Geek is nearly eight months old already. This must mean that it is time for a new movie of the month. when sitting down and having a look at the movies due to grace the big screen this month, one thing became clear. There isn’t much coming out this month that I really fancy.

However one movie has caught my eye, it comes from the mind of the man who bought us Family Guy and American Dad! It will mark his first feature film, this man of course is Seth MacFarlane and what is the movie I hear you cry?

Ted, as I said this is MacFarlane’s first feature film and I for one can’t wait to see what he can do. I am a huge fan of Family Guy and have been for some time. Ted comes about as the result of a childhood wish, John Bennett’s (Mark Walhberg) teddy bear, Ted (Voiced by Seth MacFarlane), came to life and has been by John’s side ever since – a friendship that’s tested when Lori (Mila Kunis), John’s girlfriend of four years, wants more from their relationship.

As always here is the trailer for your viewing pleasure.

Geeky Gem

Ted sure looks good, but as I can’t choose it, perhaps it is time for me, Hmsbeefnuts, to try and pick something else. Two films stand out to me, The Bourne Legacy and The Expendables 2. I’m going for The Expendables 2, despite the fact the that fucking Orange advert with that twat from The Inbetweeners plays before every fucking film I have watched for like 3 months now. Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Van Damme, Lundgren, Statham, Willis, Crews, Li, Coutre and Norris. That is a lot of man right there. The first movie wasn’t that great, but it was a fun night out, this looks more of the same to the power of ten.

Here is the trailer…..

Wednesday Whimsy

By @hmsbeefnuts

Another Wednesday comes by, and time for more things that have been amusing me over the past 7 days. I happened to see Prometheus, and liked it very much, but will say no more in case you haven’t yet checked it out, you definitely should though.

This week, my thoughts are very much attuned to video games as E3 is taking place in LA. A lot of cool games, and even new consoles have been, and are being announced by all of the games industries great and good. As an XBOX 360 and long time Nintendo fan, I was most interested in the XBOX conference and Nintendo’s. Some great looking games were shown, including Halo 4,  Forza Horizon, Splinter Cell: Black List, South Park COD Black Ops 2, and Resident Evil 6. Everything looked very beautiful, perhaps proving there is still life in the old 360 yet. Another exciting announcement was that Xbox and kinect will now have Internet Explorer, finally, and it will all easily be controlled via your phone, or tablet, or kinect, very exciting.

Also in news sure to piss Nintendo off, Microsoft introduced a new service, Xbox Smartglass. This service allows full interactivity between your phone, tablet and Xbox, including a cool feature where the guy on stage was watching Game of Thrones through his Xbox, and his tablet/phone was showing a map that featured info on the scene that was being viewed, including where in Westeros it was set. When the scene changed, the map moved to the new location. It looked very very cool.

At the time of writing, Nintendo is yet to hold it’s press conference, however, they did release some details about their up coming Wii U, including a look at there new gamepad, check it out, I think it looks very sexy.

In other news, it seems I was wrong about DC’s choice for it’s newest gay character, it wasn’t a member of the Justice League, but a member of the Justice Society, the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott.

Game of Thrones came to a triumphant season end, is it really a whole year to wait for season 3? I simply refuse to wait, I want it now. What a great season though, and what a final scene!!!

Only a quick one this week, as I’m off to watch more stuff from E3, or season 2 of Game of Thrones again. See you next week.

Wednesday Whimsy

By @hmsbeefnuts

Hello everybody, welcome to Wednesday Whimsy with me, Hmsbeefnuts. Time once more for me to collect some random thoughts, news stories and other things of note that have been happening around All Geek To Me, and the Geek world as a whole.

Firstly, on Thursday night, 24th May, All Geek To Me hit a bit of a milestone. We had our 10,000th view. Geeky Gem and I are very proud and excited at this seemingly unbelievable number. When we started, we didn’t know if anyone but us would read our blog, so we are very grateful indeed for everyone who has ever stopped by and especially if you came back.

Lets start with some big news in the Geek World that has occurred in the last week. Firstly, in the realm of Video games, there is exciting news for travellers in the realm of Skyrim. Bethesda is soon to launch a new patch that fixes a few problems with the game, but most importantly adds mounted combat!! I for one am very excited by this news. Mounted Combat will not only make riding a horse worthwhile, it will also full fill a personal dream of mine that I have had for more than a few years, to ride into a valley, straight into battle. I thought it would be in a Zelda game, but Skyrim will more than make up for it. This is big exciting news for me.

Secondly, big news in the comics world. Marvel Comics will publish a story soon that features the Marvel Universes 1st Gay Marriage. Well done Marvel for supporting this important issue. I couldn’t say that the character who is getting married is a major one, but that hardly matters. Northstar is the character in question, a character who has been ‘out’ for a while, but has decided to make an honest man of his boyfriend and tie the knot. Once again this is good news for superhero comics, as they are finally catching up with things indie comics have been doing for a long time. Also, top marks for it being two gay male characters and not the usual hot lesbian couple.

That is not the only gay comic news this month. It has been revealed that a major DC character will also be revealed to be gay. The character has been described as male, and iconic, and there has been much talk over who it could be. My vote would go to recent Justice League member Cyborg, although I have heard whispers about one of the Flash character’s also. In any case, this is also good news for comic books embracing modern times, well done DC.

Finally, the big movie news this week was the delaying of one of the big summer movie releases, GI Joe: Retaliation. The studio has officially delayed the blockbuster in order to add 3D. Well I wish they wouldn’t. However, speculation on numerous websites states that there were other reasons for the delay. A very busy summer schedule has to be the main reason, as well as the fact that GI Joe was coming out between some huge superhero franchises. The Avengers has managed to remain top of the box office for three weeks, defeating the American release of Battleship, another Hasbro property. Spider-man and The Dark Knight Rises are out very soon, and there was surely fear that GI Joe would be lost in the superhero slug fest. I am very disappointed by this delay, as I was looking forward to seeing Joe quite a bit, despite an awful first movie. The added Rock and Bruce Willis factor made this an opening weekend watch for me. Well I guess I have to wait till March now, oh well.

One last thing, how cool are these? I want them badly.

Until next time, this hmsbeefnuts signing off.

Wednesday Whimsy

By @hmsbeefnuts

OK so it is Wednesday again, and that can mean only one thing. Yes that’s right, I have to garble together some thoughts and ideas into something that might resemble a blog, if only I worked a bit harder on it. This week I thought I would share some of my views on recent geeky happenings, a few news stories, a trailer or two and some thank yous. So here goes…

Firstly, I’m sure Geeky Gem would like to join me in saying a great big thank you to everyone who has visited this blog since we began in the dark days of January. We started small, but have grown week by week, month by month and have seen some impressive (for us) milestones in the last few days. We are not very far from our 10,000 view, and have had a series of days with some great numbers. We would like to say thank you to you if you have ever clicked a link, read any of our posts, commented, liked, re-blogged, or just looked at some pictures, thank you from the bottom of our well of souls. When we started this blog, we never really thought anyone would care, we still aren’t sure anyone does, but we think some of you might, and that is all that is important. We hope we can continue with our strong start and grow as writers and bloggers, we hope you join us on this journey. Right enough schmaltz, what else has been occupying my mind?

I have tried to make a concerted effort not to spend money on games and blu-rays in the past few months. Well, I lost control last week. I picked up X-Men Quadrilogy on Blu ray, Alien Quadrilogy on Blu, Tintin, King Kong, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and last but not least, The Grey. Yeah I splashed out, but then, it was my birthday, and I hadn’t spent money for ages. I also picked up on DVD a documentary film called Superheroes, on real life Superheroes. Men and women who dress up to try and combat crime and anti-social behaviour in their communities. I enjoyed it immensely, and would recommend it to anyone with an interest in superheroes or documentaries.

I haven’t played a video game for so long now that it was getting quite disconcerting. Work and writing and movies and social things have stopped me from playing anything. I picked up The Witcher 2, and finally played a couple of hours on Sunday. I’m enjoying it, it has a complicated crafting system, but overall, I think I will have to devote more time to it in the very near future.

Here are some trailers that I think are worth checking out, if you haven’t already…

Anchorman 2

Skyfall

Things that make me happy:

The Avengers becoming the 4th highest grossing film of all time.

Sorting out your DVD/Bluray collection.

Game of Thrones.

Things that make me sad:

Dan Harmon leaving Community. Are you crazy NBC?

Cardboard boxes around DVD/Blurays.

Only 2 more Game of Thrones until next year.

BY @hmsbeefnuts

As previous posts have explained, Geeky Gem and I are both currently going through a wrestling phase. It only seems right then that whilst I am watching the most amount of wrestling TV shows and PPV’s I have ever seen, I would have a few things to say on the happenings in and around the square circle. I’m going to assume that everyone knows that WWE is a work, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t athletic, impressive and dangerous, so now we have all that over and done with…

JOHN CENA

I must admit to not really liking Cena before Wrestlemania, I wanted The Rock to kick his ass, and was very happy with the match in Miami. Rock has still got it, but I thought Cena did well, mainly, even if he can’t sell properly at times and doesn’t take things seriously. After his big loss at Wrestlemania, Cena came into contact with a returning Brock Lesnar. An F5 later and Lesnar, Cena at Extreme rules was on. The actual match was pretty much what I expected. Lesnar dominated, and Cena came back with a two move flurry at the end. Brock lost, but still looked like an absolute beast, cutting Cena hard-way to the mouth at Extreme Rules and a RAW before it. Cena looked scared. Weirdly, Cena seems to be facing John Laurenitus next, umm, OK. Brock Lesnar breaking HHH’s arm was pretty cool though.

CM PUNK

A feud with Chris Jericho is dragging on and on, and Punk keeps beating Jericho clean every time, I wonder what Jericho did to piss off management. At this point I’m finding the whole Jericho, Punk feud pretty boring, I hope it’s over. A match with Daniel Bryan at Over The Edge looks promising though, these two are my favourites.

DANIEL BRYAN

An 18 second loss to the boring Sheamus at Wrestlemania was a travesty, especially when you look at the time given to other far less talented wrestlers on the card, but Bryan has done well from the loss. He may not be champ any more, but his ‘Yes, Yes!’ catchphrase is being chanted by the crowd and other wrestlers and his stuff with A.J. Has been great. He is a great heel, and it would be good to see him go into an extended run with CM Punk over the coming months.

BELTS

There was no point in putting the title on Big Show, he can do nothing with it, thank Vince that it is back around the waist of Cody Rhodes. The tag team scene is awful at the moment, Kofi and R-Truth are currently champs, a good thing I think, but WWE needs to do more with their tag division, because it is basically dead right now. Santino Morella is still US Champ, and despite myself, I like the guy, although I feel sorry for Dolph Ziggler, not so much fro Jack Swagger, who has to lose to him seemingly every week.

OTHER STUFF

The Divas are awful aren’t they? Just no point in them at all, especially when they take up valuable time on RAW and SMACKDOWN, and on PPV’s. Just make them all valets again, I’m not being sexist, it’s just that they are all terrible at wrestling. Sack the Great Khali, he is useless and can’t walk. Lord Tensai, looks like a giant baby, but at least he is better now than he was as Albert. Ryback is OK, Vince clearly likes him. Sheamus should lose the World Title, he is very very boring. Randy Orton is better in the heel role. Mark Henry is pathetic, please keep him away from any titles. The main event scene needs to have a bit of a shake up.

So there you are, my thoughts on just over a month of happenings in the WWE. We will return to this subject soon, thanks for reading.

Hmsbeefnuts Presents…

By @hmsbeefnuts

There are a few changes afoot here at All Geek To Me. Our regular Sunday Trivia feature will continue, but now Geeky Gem alone will be heroically handling business on a Sunday. She enjoys doing it anyway, and so I have freed myself up to write a blog on a Wednesday, something I will be calling Wednesday Whimsy, for no other reasons than, I’m not quite sure what I’ll be doing every week, and I like alliteration. At least once a month I will be looking at the goings on in the WWE, something I will be calling Wrestling round up. There will also be a round-up of major geeky news stories in other weeks. There may very well be other stuff going on too, but I haven’t quite figured it all out yet. Needless to say we will now have a regular post on a Wednesday as well.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has visited and read this blog, and we hope that you continue to read, and hopefully enjoy, All Geek To Me for a long time to come. So without further ado, lets crack on with our first Wednesday Whimsy article, this week….

Last week the reveal trailer for Call of Duty Black Ops II came out. Looks good as ever, this time set slightly in the future. Check it out below.

Sticking with trailers, here is the new one for The Dark Knight Rises, it looks epic.

Third times the charm, check out the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, not quite sure what to think of this one…

Wednesday Whimsy draws to a close. I’ll catch you next Wednesday for more, umm, whimsy I guess. That’s All Folks.
