Hiya all! The week has gone and passed already, and what a week it was! We survived the Mayan ‘apocalypse’ of 12/21/12, and Christmas has come and gone just yesterday! I know I’ve been plenty busy as I’m sure you have been too. Lots of family, friends, gifts, cooking and baking but I managed to squeeze a little bit of time for you guys and my blog post. So now it is time for the final film of my 4 favorite Christmas movies. I’ve already written about numbers 1 – 3; Rent, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. So today I will be wrapping it up with my last, but not least, Christmas film – Edward Scissorhands.

Edward Scissorhands was produced and directed by Tim Burton in 1990, and released by 20th Century Fox. It is an American romantic comedy film, and an original production by Tim Burton. The genesis for the film was a drawing done by a teenage Tim Burton. During the production of Beatlejuice, he hired young author Caroline Thompson to adapt his idea into a screenplay. It has a fairly average runtime of 105 minutes.

Edward Scissorhands is an old woman’s tale of her first love. A blossoming and innocent love between her and an unusual, but very gentle, young man who is not quite a man. Edward is actually the creation of a brilliant scientist who tragically died before finishing, leaving Edward very nearly human but with large metal scissors for hands. When discovered by the local Avon lady, she takes him home.Things go well, and he is at first welcomed for his creativity and gentleness. However during the season of giving and good will towards men, things take a decidedly sour turn, because not everyone is accepting and suburbia is rarely kind to the unique.

This movie is fantastic for watching at Christmas time. It has a lot of really touching moments, especially the ice sculpting scene, with all the snow and ice shavings flying through the air. The acting was also really well done; Johnny Depp was superb in this and I don’t think it would have been quite the same if another actor had been used, although several worthy candidates auditions including Michael Jackson and Robert Downy Jr. Vincent Price is also awesome, even though his part is relatively tiny it is excellent. Edward Scissorhands was his last feature film, and I think he went out with a bang.

Well, there you have it! My final Christmas film choice! I really love this film, I saw it when I was just a little girl and it definitely is a must watch during the Christmas season, although it is great any time of the year! Anyway, I hate to leave you with such a short little post, but the Christmas season is busy for all of us! Hopefully next week I’ll be able to tell you about some holiday anime, because I’ve been dying to watch it.

Until next time, Happy Holidays;

Caelrona – signing off! ❤

12 Movies of Christmas: Rare Exports

By @hmsbeefnuts

Hello friends, and welcome to a rare blog, by yours truly. As a special event type thing over this most festive of months, we here at All Geek To Me have decided to look at some of our favourite festive films, 12 in all, in tribute to Santa, Little Baby Jesus and presents. I love Christmas, and this year is turning out to be a good one so far. It’s amazing how the introduction of a four year old child can liven up Christmas time for someone who has had a Scrooge like existence for the last 2 years. One of the best things about spending time with said child is the wealth of Christmas films that we can watch with him. However, my first choice for AGTM’s 12 Movies of Christmas will not be on the agenda for our festive film fests. This choice is a great little Finnish film that is both full of Christmas spirit, and horror, Rare Exports…

Rare Exports is a great little film. The basic premise is thus; On Christmas Eve in Finland, Santa Claus is unearthed in an archaeological dig. Soon after, children start disappearing, leading a boy and his father to capture Santa and, with the help of fellow hunters, they look to sell him back to the corporation that sponsored the dig. And then there’s Santa’s elves, who are determined to free their leader… (Thanks IMDB!!). Sounds pretty cool right?

Well the Santa in this film isn’t giving anyone a Miracle on any street, let alone 34th, and his nice list seems to have gone missing, this St. Nick is very much all about punishing the naughty, so be good, for goodness sake. I really liked this take on the Santa Claus Mythos, it might not be for everyone, but I would recommend giving it a try, as long as you are cool with subtitles, and naked old men.

Anyway, that’s it for this installment, I’ll be back soon to write about another Christmas Movie, maybe Elf or something, well worth looking forward too though I’m sure. Merry Christmas!!
